Christmas has been associated with miracles for as long as it's been celebrated. One of the reasons for this comes from the original Christmas story, the birth of Christ.
You know the story. Prophets had been predicting for ages that a 'Savior' would be born in lowly circumstances. Mary was visited by an Angel who told her that she would bear this Savior, even though she was still a virgin. Things proceeded step by step to arrange that this child was born, would live, and would die according to the prophecies.
But this isn't all. Christ demonstrated so many miracles, everyone 'knew' that He could do them at will. He was what is generally called an 'Avatar' - an incarnation of God.
What most people miss when they read the Bible is that Christ said that anyone could perform the same miracles He did. The Bible has several quotations where Christ says that we can do anything, as long as we believe that what we want will happen.
My favorite of these quotes comes from the book of Mark, chapter 11, verses 23 & 24.
"Truly I say to you, whoever says to this mountain, 'Be taken up and cast into the sea' and does not doubt in his heart, but believes that what he says is going to happen, it shall be granted him. Therefore I say to you, all things for which you pray and ask, believe that you have received them, and they shall be granted you."
Christmas is a time when we remember Christ and the messages He brought to the world. Most people focus on the message of love and acceptance - treating others as we would like to be treated ourselves. Few people even remember the other message that Christ gave the world - that you can create your own miracles, all you have to do is believe in them.
Or at least, that's what quoted in the Bible.
In actual practice, there are some other things that make the Power of Miracles accessible to us mere mortals, or at least those of us in the modern age.
In the time of Christ, life was different. There weren't cell phones, pagers, TV, the Internet, or 1000 other distractions. People had very few things to focus their attention on, and thus were able to focus their minds very well.
It turns out that this is one key to the Power of Miracles.
People back then were also more attuned to Nature. They weren't disassociated from the world by technology. They had a more intimate connection to the world around them.
This also happens to be a key to the Power of Miracles.
Christ taught us that faith is important to the production of miracles. You can have anything you want as long as you believe that it will happen for you.
We've discovered that the other two "Keys To Power" are focus and a feeling of connectedness to the world around us.
Faith, Focus, and Feeling - the 3 Keys To Power.
When you've developed these 3 factors, you have everything you need to duplicate the miracles of Christ. You could heal the sick, raise the dead, cast your nets for a huge catch (profit), and know the truth whether a person speaks it or not.
For me, this message of Christ is at least as important as the message to love one another. Love is great, and it certainly improves the quality of our lives. I certainly don't want to ignore this important message.
But I think that we need to remember the other important message as well. You can create your own Christmas miracle. Not only at Christmastime, but any time you need one.
