If you're doing business online, you need to know how to write effective marketing materials. Even if your business in nothing more than a blog supported by AdSense, knowing how to write effective marketing materials will help you write blog posts that keep people coming back for more.

Of course, you'll find that writing good marketing materials quickly produces more income than AdSense ever could. Whether you sell a product you've created yourself, or sell someone else's product through an affiliate program, here are the steps you'll need to take to do it well.

Step 1:  What does the market want?

Until you KNOW what the market wants, you could be spinning your wheels writing a great sales letter that will never sell anything. If you know what they want, then writing a sales-PRODUCING letter is easy.

In this, "the market" means the audience you want to sell to. This could be the readers of a particular blog or ezine, business owners in a targeted niche, or people searching on Google.

Step 2:  Who has the best solution for what the market wants?

Face it, you may make more money promoting someone else's product than trying to sell your own. As they say in the music biz, 5% of a million CD sales is a lot more than 100% of what you can sell out of the trunk of your car.

When you realize that many product creators will give 50% to their affiliates (aka promotional partners), and those affiliates don't have to think about creating the product, delivering the product, handling customer service issues, or even maintaining a website, you can see how being an affiliate can be even more profitable than being the product creator.

Of course, this is only the start.  Look at the various products available on the market, and consider how you would evaluate them if you were looking to make a purchase yourself.  Would you prefer an overview product, or would an in-depth encyclopedic treatment of the subject be more interesting?  Is a simple PDF enough, or do you want supporting materials as well.  And how much is all this going to cost?  Would you be more interested in making a $10 investment, or would $100 feel more secure?

Step 3:  Where is the market's biggest pain?

People are much more willing to spend money to solve a problem than they are to gain an added benefit. When you know their biggest problem, their biggest pain, you'll know the core message you need to use in your sales letter.

Step 4:  What is the market's ideal scenario?

Do they want to live on the beach? Do they want to run up steps without having to stop for air? Do they want to eliminate the work and drudgery from their lives? Do they want women crawling on the floor to be with them? When you know the market's dreams, you can use that effectively in your sales letter.

Step 5:  How does the product move them from pain to pleasure?

You need to be able to describe this in a way that the reader of your sales letter can see themselves doing it. Make it clear and definite.

Step 6:  How does the product compare to other solutions?

If those reading your sales letter see cheaper and/or better ways of solving the problem, they won't buy. You must be able to compare the product you're selling to other solutions in ways that draw favorable attention to your product. Show price comparisons to more expensive solutions, and show other advantages over less expensive solutions.

Step 7:  How is the price justified?

No matter how great your sales letter, the reader will need to justify the price before they will buy. Imagine you're in a court room and you need to present clear and definite evidence that justifies the price.

You may need to include proof that the product does what it's supposed to do. You may need to present the product creator's credentials. You may need to include testimonials from satisfied customers who provide further evidence to support your claims that not only does the product work, but that other people can use it effectively.

Step 8:  What other benefits does your product offer?

Beyond solving the core problem and moving the customer closer to their ideal outcome, what other benefits does your product offer? Remember, there's a big difference between features and benefits. A feature is part of the product itself. A benefit is an effect the product has on the customer's life.

Step 9:  What stories can you use to communicate all this?

A sales letter with nothing but facts and figures is difficult to read, and produces few sales. The more drama and excitement you can put into it, the better.

Step 10: Write an emotional headline that summarizes all this in 10 words or less.

Although there are many different ways to write a winning headline, the most consistent is a simple statement of what the product offers, using words that paint an emotional word picture in the reader's mind.

Challenge yourself to come up with a short phrase that could potentially do all the selling for you. If that seems too much, then at least create enough curiosity so anyone who may be interested in the product will feel compelled to read the rest of the letter.

Step 11: Arrange all of the above in a way that flows smoothly from beginning to end.

Now that you have all the pieces you'll need to write the letter, it's time to bring them all together. The most important thing is to make sure that all the points flow easily from one to the next. This helps keep the reader's attention, and presents your sales message in a way that is easy to understand and absorb.

Step 12: Edit for emotional impact, clarity, and accuracy.

Rarely will your first draft be the best it could be. Most writers need to go over their material several times to correct mistakes, improve the presentation, and polish it to perfection.

When you've brought it to the peak of perfection, let it sit for a day or two. Then bring it back out and review it again. You'll be surprised at how many things you'll find that still need to be fixed. When you're happy with it, let someone else read it and get their feedback. Are there any points that aren't clear? Does anything feel stilted or awkward? How does it make them feel? If they ever have the problem addressed, would they buy the product?

Step 13: Publish the letter and measure the results.

In the end, the only way you'll REALLY know how good your sales letter is, is to measure the results in an actual sales environment. Track the number of people who see the letter, and count the number of sales that result. Divide the number of sales by the number of readers and you have what is known as the conversion ratio. In most cases, this will be somewhere between 1% and 5%, meaning that out of every 100 people who read the letter, 1 to 5 of them buy.

As time goes on, change various aspects of the letter and see how they affect the overall effectiveness. Either do this by making one change at a time, or set up a Taguchi test to measure the effect of several variables at once.

Gratitude has long been known to produce abundance in every area of life. Everyone who teaches abundance refers to it in one way or another.

But exactly WHY does it work?

Most folks, including those who teach abundance principles can't tell you because they don't know.

The reason is pretty simple, actually.

Gratitude works to attract abundance because when you are in a state of gratitude, you are in harmonic resonance with the Divine Essence of the Universe, which is the source of all abundance.

When you are in harmony with the Universe, abundance is naturally attracted to you, just as metal is attracted to a strong magnet.

However, many folks may feel that this doesn't really answer the question.

So let's take it further. Why does being in harmonic resonance with the Universe result in abundance being attracted to you?

Again, the answer is pretty simple.

Being in harmony with the Divine Essence of the Universe attracts abundance because when you are in harmony with the Universe, you are in touch with the Divine Power which creates everything, and that Power is automatically directed to create experiences for which you can be grateful.

It's like your mind, in being grateful, is giving the Divine Power of the Universe a positive template to follow in creating future experiences into your life.

When you allow yourself to feel anger, frustration, or envy, you open yourself to the unhappy experience of directing Divine Power to create negative experiences instead.

This is one reason why we have so many holidays in the winter months to help us focus on the positive emotions of gratitude and love.

These emotions help us to stay in harmony with the Divine, and therefore help us to attract positive experiences into our lives.

Many years ago, when I lived in Kansas City, I frequently wallowed in negative emotions such as anger, hate, envy, jealousy, frustration, and so on.

Of course, my life was filled with negative experiences which reflected the dominant attitude in my mind.

When I learned about the power of the mind, and especially the power of gratitude, it took a firm commitment to CHOOSE more positive emotions long enough for the essence of them to be reflected into my life.

It wasn't easy, and it didn't happen overnight, but it did happen.

The more I focused my mind on love, the more love that came into my life.

The more I focused my mind on those things I could be grateful for, the more I experienced things for which I could be grateful.

This is the real meaning of "like attracts like", and the reason why gratitude attracts abundance.

You hear it everywhere. All we need is love. Love is the answer. Love is the greatest force in the Universe. It's certainly a nice sentiment, but what does it really mean?

On an outer conscious level, love is the feeling we have when something or someone thrills our senses. We love chocolate chip cookies because of the way they melt in our mouths. We love dancing because it makes our hearts pump faster, giving us a strong feeling of being alive. We love that person who makes our bodies go all tingly inside when we kiss. This is what many call “human love.”

“Sacred Love,” on the other hand, is something else entirely.

On one level, Sacred Love is what happens on an inner conscious level when we experience the emotion we generally call love. When we feel loving, our inner spirits tend to open up, expand, and reach out to make a connection with the thing or person our minds are focusing upon.

In making this spiritual connection, we are essentially joining with the object of our love, becoming one. A unity of spirits which transcends the limitations of physical reality.

But there's more.

When our spirits open up and expand, we are also opening ourselves up to the Universe on a grander scale. The Life Force, which is usually replenished during sleep, flows into our being without obstruction. This tends to improve our physical health and well-being, among other things.

The healing which results from this influx of Life Force doesn't stop with our physical bodies. This power activates changes in all areas of life, including our relationships, our finances, and the world at large. The reason for this is simple. On a spiritual level, all things (and people) are interconnected, and what helps one, helps all.

All of this happens whenever we experience the emotion of love. It happens even more when we focus on the process and consciously intensify the feeling of love within us, directing it towards the Universe at large. Whenever we sit in meditation and “love the Universe”, we are raising the spiritual vibrations of ourselves and the world around us.

What's really great about this is that by focusing on love, and in particular this Sacred Love for all things and all people, the Power of the Universe is able to flow through our minds, picking up images of our needs and desires, and can therefore go out into the world to manifest those things for us. It's as if by loving the Universe, the Universe responds with love, and showers blessings upon us.

Of course, these blessings fall on many others as well. Again, on the spiritual level, what helps one person helps everyone. Along a similar line, the more people who consciously choose to focus on Sacred Love, the more blessings fall upon all of us.

This is why many evangelical religions encourage their followers to do everything they can to “spread the word.” By enlisting everyone you can to this process, we can accomplish so much more than any of us can do on our own.

One of the most influential Self-Image beliefs is one that says whether we are lucky or unlucky.  This one belief affects many other beliefs, including those beliefs that define whether we expect other people to respond well to us, and whether we expect to do well on task-oriented projects involving no one but ourselves.

Even if you reject the idea that our beliefs have an influence on the world around us, you can probably accept the idea that our beliefs affect the decisions we make leading to whatever results are produced by those decisions.

When a person believes they are 'unlucky', they are less likely to take action leading towards personal fulfillment and are more likely to give up when encountering an obstacle.  They almost expect to fail, and who enjoys wasting their time on a project doomed to failure?

Those with a belief in their own good fortune are more likely to take action and to persist with the project until they get the results they want.  Even if our beliefs did nothing other than affect our decisions, this alone demonstrates how a belief in good luck produces more positive results.

My own experience, and the experiences of many others, proves that our beliefs have a greater influence, and that they can alter the course of events outside ourselves as well.  Someone who believes they are lucky will win games of chance much more often than someone who believes they are unlucky, for instance.

So where is your belief about how lucky or unlucky you are?  To properly determine this, it's important to calibrate a scale on which you can measure the strength of your belief.

The concept here is that when you ask yourself a question, such as "Do I believe I am lucky?" there is a feeling that comes along with the mental answer.  This feeling changes depending on the strength of the belief.  But before you can ask yourself the important question, you have to start out asking questions with absolute answers to mark out the endpoints of the scale.

Calibrating a belief scale entails asking yourself a set of questions that are guaranteed to produce strong yes or no answers, such as "Do I believe I know my own name?" and "Do I believe 2+2=4?" to set the 'yes' end of the scale, and "Do I believe I live on planet Mars?" to set the 'no' end.

For the purpose of measuring the strength of a belief, we label the 'no' end of the scale at 0% and the 'yes' end of the scale at 100%.  When you believe something 100%, you consider it an absolute fact, like 2+2=4 or knowing your own name.  When you believe something 0%, you consider it nonsense, like the idea you're living on planet Mars.

Once you have calibrated your belief scale, now ask yourself, "Do I believe that I am lucky?"  How does the feeling that comes up with the yes/no answer compare with the endpoints established earlier?  Is it closer to the "absolutely yes" end of the scale, or closer to the "absolutely not" end of the scale?  If you had to put a number on it (from 0 to 100), what number feels right?

A 50% belief (halfway between 'absolutely yes' and 'absolutely not') shows that your belief is split equally between "I am lucky" and "I am unlucky".  Beliefs in this area of the scale indicate that your experience is balanced between positive surprises and negative surprises.

If your belief in your own good fortune measures low, such as under 30%, you can probably remember more unpleasant surprises in your life than happy ones.  This belief that you are unlucky will create more obstacles than necessary and prevent you from being truly happy in life.

So how do you change a belief into something more helpful?

There are many techniques available, but perhaps the easiest one stems from a concept called "pacing and leading."

Pacing and leading is a concept from NLP (Neuro-Linguistic Programming) and is a technique taught to salespeople to persuade resistant prospects into believing that the product or service being sold is desireable.  We can use the same technique on ourselves to persuade our inner minds into believing that we are lucky.

To use this technique, start with a series of statements you currently believe 100%.  These can be anything, such as:

  1. I know that 2+2=4.
  2. I know that I know my own name.
  3. I know that I am on planet Earth.
  4. I know that the sky is blue.
  5. I know that I am sitting in my office.  (or wherever you happen to be at the moment.)

This series of pacing statements establishes a feeling of confidence and trust.  You believe the things you hear, and your inner mind expects the pattern to continue.

Immediately after saying your list of pacing statements, say a statement that 'leads' towards what you want to believe.  In this case, "I know that I am lucky."

So now the full list of statements looks like:

  1. I know that 2+2=4.
  2. I know that I know my own name.
  3. I know that I am on planet Earth.
  4. I know that the sky is blue.
  5. I know that I am sitting in my office.
  6. I know that I am lucky.

Repeat your list of pacing and leading statements a few times and then measure the strength of your belief in your own good fortune.  You'll notice that your belief that you are lucky is now stronger than it was just a moment ago.

As you repeat this process, the strength of your belief will automatically grow, and eventually when you ask yourself, "Do I believe that I am lucky?" the response from within will sound like "Yes! Of course!"

Affirmations are a powerful tool when used correctly.  Most of us learned to do affirmations in school when we repeated statements over and over again to memorize them.

Back then, the affirmations looked like:

  • 30 days has September.
  • I before E, except after C.
  • In 1492, Columbus sailed the ocean blue.

While these affirmations helped us memorize certain facts, they did not change us on a fundamental level.

Eventually, we learned that if we were to evolve in a significant way, we would need to change the thought patterns deep within our minds.

And despite the many new techniques which have come out in recent years, affirmations continue to be one of the best tools to make such evolutionary changes.

How to Use Affirmations

Using affirmations is actually a very simple technique.  All you need to do is repeat your chosen statements over and over again, as often as you can, with as much confidence as you can muster.

The more confident you are in your affirmations, the quicker your inner mind will accept the new programming.

Another powerful method of using affirmations is to record them and play the recording in the background while you do other things.

This taps into the power of subliminal programming, which distracts the conscious mind long enough for the subconscious mind to notice and store the positive statements presented to it by the recording.

This second method can actually produce better results because you can have the recordings play in the background a lot longer than you can sit and consciously repeat the statements over and over again.

And there is some evidence that playing such a recording while you sleep can also be effective.


How to Choose Effective Affirmations

While the use of affirmations is easy to understand, the creation of effective affirmations is less so.

Particularly because there is so much mis-information about how the inner mind works.  For example, some say that only positively-phrased affirmations should be used.  However, when a person's mind is heavily focused on negativity, positively-phrased affirmations can often have a reversed effect and product a result that is exactly opposite of what was intended.

Essentially, an effective affirmation will describe the end result you want, phrased as you would normally say it in everyday conversation.

And for even greater effect, you'll use several affirmations for the same goal, each phrased slightly differently, to give your inner mind a type of "mental fiber" to hold on to.

However, the ideas and concepts behind your chosen affirmations are much more important than the specific words used to phrase them.

For this, it's important to study successful people and identify the specific beliefs which have helped them be so successful.  This will help you become much more successful yourself than if you were to pick affirmations at random.

Foundational Beliefs (19)

In short, just by listening to a set of audio recordings while you do other things, you will automatically start evolving into a more successful person, without any additional effort on your part, and without taking any time away from the things you want to do.

Over the years, I've had quite a number of folks just starting out in their online marketing career ask me how they can start making money quickly as an affiliate or promotional partner.

In most cases, these folks are starting from scratch, without a website, without a product of their own, and without an audience.

I know what it's like.  I was in that exact position back in January, 2003.

I did what most folks do.  I researched what the experts were suggesting, and did my best to follow their suggestions.

I set up a signup form so people could get something for free.  I posted links to my website anywhere I could.  Even paid for some ads to get people to my website.  And then I started promoting products that other people had created to those who signed up for my list.

In those early days, when you only have a dozen or so folks on your mailing list, you don't make much money.  In fact, it took several weeks before I made my first sale, and the commission on that was a whopping $15!

If I were starting over again today, I'd do things completely differently.

Before I describe what I would do now, it's important to know that attracting an audience for your business is the hardest part of the puzzle.  Creating products can be easy, and setting up a website is something you do once and simply maintain periodically.

Yes, you can spend money on advertising whenever you want to promote a product (either your own or one created by someone else).  However, you make a LOT more money when you have an audience you can communicate with over and over again for weeks, months, and years.

Also, the easiest way to gets lots of new people to your website (and then onto your mailing list) is when you have a product other affiliates can promote to their mailing lists.  There are THOUSANDS of affiliates looking for new products to sell to their list.  Some of these folks have mailing lists of 100,000 subscribers and more.  If you have a product they like (and makes them money), you can get all the traffic you want to your website.

Once you get new people to your website, you can offer a free gift to get them onto your mailing list, and once you have a lot of folks on your mailing list, you can make decent money promoting products created by others for commissions.  For this reason, it really doesn't matter if you make any money at all from the sale of your own product, as long as it helps you get more subscribers onto your mailing list.

With the plan I recommend in this article, you can grow your mailing list quickly and start making GOOD money promoting products made by others.

No wasting time with $15 here and $30 there.  Within a month, you could be making $500 to $1000 or more every time you send out an email.

To go into more detail, I would take a few days, organize what I know about the core topic I plan to build the business around, and then find a way to create a small product based on that information. Before I do, I'd make sure that there are similar products being sold.  If not, creating one may be a waste of time.

When you NEED to be successful, it's best to focus on things you KNOW people are already buying products for.

Maybe I'd pull out my cell phone and record myself talking about the topic for 30 minutes to an hour.  Either audio or video, whichever I felt most comfortable with.  If neither appealed to me, I'd sit at the computer and start typing it out.  The free OpenOffice software makes it easy to create a PDF of whatever I write.

Free gift products like PDFs, MP3s, and short videos are all you need.  As long as it provides value (information, entertainment, or an experience), that's all you need.  I've seen 15-page PDFs that offered a unique insight into a solution to a problem and provided great value.  The same can be true with 10 to 15 minute recordings.

That would be the free gift I'd use to get folks to join my mailing list.

Then I'd start working on creating a more in-depth product.  You know how when you're really passionate about a topic, you can talk about it for hours?  Well, guess what?  If you record yourself talking about your topic for a couple of hours, and do so in a somewhat organized fashion, you can turn that into a product people will actually pay money for.  Doesn't matter if it's only $10 or $20.  Actually, low priced products work very well here.

The biggest factors determining how valuable your product is include how well does it help people solve a problem, and how unique is your solution.  The more it helps folks, and the more unique your solution, the more you can charge for your product.  Also, the fewer products that already exist that solve the same or similar problem, the more you can charge for it.

This is a good time to do a little research and see what others are selling.  If everyone is selling a manual with a set of guided meditations, then maybe you'll want to create something that is basically similar, adding a few unique differences.  Again, when you NEED to be successful, it's good to model successful businesses.

Whether you create your product by yourself at home, or gather a group of friends and record a workshop presentation doesn't matter.  Whatever you need to do to get the information out in a way that helps folks and get it recorded is perfectly okay.

If you're video recording a live event, like a workshop, you'll want someone else running the camera(s).  If you have a friend who does this, GREAT!  Otherwise, it might be worth hiring a professional.  However, be prepared to spend good money for good video.  It's not cheap.

A lower-cost video option is to set up a camera (it could be your cell phone) and just speak to the camera.  It's only when you want to record a live event that video gets complicated.

The objective is to create a product that includes a couple of hours of useful information (or about 50 – 100 pages in a PDF), and can easily be sold for $20 or so.  If you can create a combination product with more than 1 component, even better.

Now, to put all this into perspective, while it's easily possible to create a product in an afternoon, you'll do a lot better when you spend a little more time on it.  Don't try to be perfect.  I have some products I spent more than a year creating, and they still weren't perfect.  Do the best you can in the time you have available, whether that's a week, a month, or several months.  There's also something to be said for putting something together quickly just to see what type of response you get from the IDEA behind the product, and then work to create a better product later.

Once you have your product, you need a system to process sales.  WordPress and WooCommerce is a free system that will work.

You'll also need a way to track referrals from others.  This is known as an affiliate system.  There are a variety of options here, including a few free plugins from the WordPress directory.

There are also free plugins to run a mailing list system within WordPress.  The main problem here is that most web hosting companies severely limit what you can do with email, so you may need to sign up with an outside service for this. can be a good place to start, since they have a free service for those just starting out.

It's a lot easier to sell a digital product if you have a graphic that illustrates what it would look like if it were a physical product.  For this, unless you're already good with creating graphics, you will want to hire a graphic artist to do this for you.  Should cost $50 or less.

And finally, you need a webpage to describe your product in a way that persuades folks to exchange their money for your product.  There's a lot of information online on this, and it's one of the most valuable skills to learn when you want to start a business.

There are many experts who will do this for a fee, which might range anywhere from $250 to $25,000 and more.  While the old adage, "you get what you pay for" is generally true, there are some copywriters who charge a lot more than they're worth.  Do your due diligence before hiring someone to write sales copy for you.

The better your webpage sells, the more successful your business will be.

Personally, I'll spend anywhere from 5 hours to 2 weeks writing the copy to sell a product.

Once you have a website, with the infrastructure you need (mailing list system, shopping cart, affiliate system), a free offer on the homepage, and the paid offer presented to those who sign up for your list, you need to test everything.

Run some ads, get folks to the website, and see how many sign up for your free offer, and how many of those purchase your product.  Get at least a couple hundred visitors before you change anything.

A good way to advertise is to set up an account with Google AdWords and run what are known as PPC (pay-per-click) ads where you pay Google a small amount for each person who clicks the ad to go to your website.  You get to decide how much it's worth to you, although in most cases, you'll need to spend at least 25 cents per click to get any traffic at all.  You won't be charged until your ads have run for 30 days, so there's time to make the money required to pay for the ads, but be smart about how to do this.  You really DON'T want to spend $1000 on ads and not have anyone buy your product.

Ideally, you want your free offer to get at least 25% of visitors to sign up for your list.  Of those, you want at least 10% to purchase your product.  This means that 2.5% of visitors are buying your product (1 in every 40 visitors), which is a GOOD number.  Most websites only get 1% to 2% of visitors to purchase a product.

If you're spending 25 cents per click on advertising, and getting 2.5% of people to buy a $20 product, you're doing VERY well.  In fact, you'd be making $2 for every $1 you spend.  When you can do that, put everything you have into promoting that offer.  Just do it gradually, in case the first time around was a fluke.  Even if only 1.25% of website visitors bought your product (1 sale from every 80 visitors), you'd break even, which is still good, since you'll make more money from those who sign up for your mailing list.

If you're not getting enough people signing up for your list, see if you can tweak the opt-in offer to get more folks signing up.  I've had free offers that got 60% of visitors to join a list.  If you get anywhere near that, you've got a GREAT offer.

BTW, my current Divine Dynamics offer is getting a 50% signup rate.  I'm also getting about 3.5% of site visitors buying a package offered after signup (averaging about $56/sale).  As a result, my website is making an average of $1.87 per visitor.  Therefore, I can afford to spend $1.75 per click and still make money.

Same thing with the paid product offer.  If you're not getting enough of your subscribes purchasing the product, see if you can find the problem and fix it.

If you have to, go back and tweak the product itself.  Maybe add a set of worksheets or templates for people to use.  Add a guided meditation.  Re-record your presentation as video instead of audio.  Have your recording transcribed so you can add a PDF version.  Do whatever you have to do to make your product worth MORE than the price you're asking for it.

While you COULD lower the price, don't go below $10.  $20 is a better price point.  As long as people can see more value than you're asking, you can charge whatever you want.  I find $20, $50, and $100 price points easy to sell.  More than that, and the product needs to be promoted on the "back end" after folks know how good your lower-priced products can be.

Ideally, your mailing list system will allow you to set up emails to go out on a schedule.  This is known as an autoresponder.  With an autoresponder, you can program in a number of emails to further promote your paid product to get more people purchasing it over time.

This same autoresponder can be used to promote products created by others.

Eventually, you'll figure out the right combination of product features and sales messages so your new website can be counted on to make money.

This is the point where you start to invite business owners who have large mailing lists to promote your product to their list.

One good mailing from someone with a list of 100,000 subscribers can add a couple thousand subscribers to your list overnight.  With enough affiliates promoting your website, you'll soon have your own mailing list of 5000 or more.

And one good mailing to a list of 5000 subscribers can bring in $200 to $1000 when you promote the right product as an affiliate.  When you get to the point of having 100,000 subscribers, each email you send out can lead to $5,000 to $20,000 in commissions.

Because of this, I'd give my affiliates 75% of the front-end product just to get them excited about promoting for me.  In fact, this is exactly what I'm doing now, even though I have many products to offer, and a good-sized mailing list of my own.

Adding more subscribers to your list is always a good thing.

So, overall, this is what I suggest to anyone just starting out.

Pick a topic you're passionate about, and have some degree of knowledge to share.  Create a small product to give to those willing to join your list, and another more in-depth product to sell.  Set up a working system to sell your product and give a fair percentage to those willing to promote you, and then allow others to make good money while building your business for you.

With the mailing list created from their promotions, you can make money month after month by promoting good products, and your audience will love you for it, as long as you only recommend products that actually work, and are worth more than the prices asked.

A lot of moving parts, yes.  Even so, this is the QUICKEST way I know to making good money.


One of the biggest misconceptions about the Law of Attraction is that if you want something bad enough, or if you THINK about it often enough, it will manifest.

Without much of any results to speak of.

Not until they combined affirmations with something else.

One of the most common techniques for creating change is the use of affirmations.

If you want more confidence, tell yourself, "I can do this!" and then do it.

If you want to stop smoking, tell yourself, "I am a non-smoker." and believe it.

If you want to attract a better relationship, a good one to use is "Love is an ever-present reality in my life now."

And a good all-purpose affirmation is "I can, and I will."

The basic idea behind affirmations is that when you focus on an idea, and maintain that focus long enough, the message seeps down into your subconscious mind, which maintains your beliefs and generates your emotions, which often motivate you to one type of action or another.

In other words, it's like you're manually steering the plane until the autopilot kicks in.

In general, it's a sound idea.

But there's a problem with it.

Before I explain the problem, I want to take a moment and point out where affirmations do work.

When you tell yourself, "I can do this" and then follow through and actually do it, the experience is stored in your memory, and the next time you need to do something, you have a history of success that increases your self-belief.

In other words, it's the experience that makes the change, not the affirmation.

The affirmation served merely to motivate you to action.

The problem most folks have with affirmations is that they repeat them over and over again, but never take action.

No action = no change.

I remember years ago, when I was first learning all this, sitting at home repeating affirmations like "I am wealthy.  Money flows easily into my life now and always."

The problem was, the next day, when it was time to go out looking for a job, I didn't feel wealthy.

I didn't feel confident enough to submit those job applications.

I felt like the failure I was.

And I wondered where all the money that was supposed to flow into my life was hiding.

Now, I will say that, over time, I've seen real magic and miracles.  There IS a power beyond the physical that can make things happen.

And it CAN be triggered using affirmations.

But not until something else is in place.

A subscriber recently asked me about the work of Robert Scheinfeld, asking if I agree with him in that we have absolutely no control over our lives, and it's nothing more than an illusion.

What was especially interesting for me is that when I did my research on Mr. Scheinfeld, I found someone who was very much taking control of his own life, and teaching techniques for getting more enjoyment from life.

While he may SAY that our lives are scripted, his actions say something completely different.

Anyway, the concept of whether we have any real control over our lives is a valid question, and is a topic worth addressing.

The question has been addressed many times in the field of astrology.

One of the biggest questions in that field is whether the positions of the planets have any real effect on our lives, and if so, are we slaves to their influence.

The concept is usually referred to as "Fate versus Free Will".

Most of us, when we have a problem, will usually do one of several things to solve it.

We might look at the problem and do whatever pops into our head without researching what others have done in similar situations.

This is actually the most common approach, and sometimes it works, but most of the time you get only so-so results.

Another thing we might do is to ask other people if they had the same problem, and if so, what worked for them.

The main problem with this approach is that the other person’s situation may not have been the same, and so their solution may not work in our case.

This tends to lead to trying several different things before you find one that works for you.

Some folks may even have a pet theory and will suggest something they’ve never tried, which could make the problem even worse.

Those who are more intellectually oriented may go and buy a book on the subject--or three or ten--and really dive in and study the problem, what others have done, what the experts say about it, and what they recommend.

Again, this is a good approach, but is limited by the fact that not everyone starts with the same conditions, and therefore, the solutions you get with this approach are not customized to your unique situation.

This mean you’re still stuck trying different things until you find something that works for you.  It also takes a lot of time to read through all those books.

One of the best approaches is to hire an expert to analyze your problem, your unique situation, and then propose a custom solution.  

This is what high-earners do, because our time is worth more than average, and sometimes, solving a problem will help you make more money than what you put into it.

Another popular approach to solving problems is to add a little magic.

Prayer has long been regarded as a practical solution to many problems, and the modern age has its own version, called the Law of Attraction.

The main problem with this approach is that there are many more failures than successes.  When it works, it seems magical and miraculous.  But when it fails, it seems like a complete waste of time.

All the affirmations, visualization, tapping, and whatnot that’s SUPPOSED to work, often doesn’t, unless you have a specific set of conditions in place.

Do you like music?

Silly question.  Almost everyone does.

Music can make us feel good, remind us of when we fell in love, or when our team won the big game.

In most cases, a song reminds us of an event because it was playing when that event happened.

If there was music playing the first time you made out, that song will bring up those wonderful feelings whenever you hear it, even years later.

This same pattern is the reason why some folks are afraid of dogs, or small spaces, or even standing up for themselves.

There was a bad experience somewhere in the past which is triggered whenever certain conditions exist in the present.

But there's a way to break the pattern.

And not only break the pattern, but reprogram it so the things that used to make you afraid actually give you confidence and power.

Here's how you do it.

First, you need to relax as much as you can.

Giving yourself a small indulgence can help.  It can be anything you enjoy.

It can even be singing, if you enjoy doing it.

Focus your mind on something that feels good, and pretend that you can make the experience much more intense, and much more enjoyable than ever.

When you have intensified the feeling as much as you can, BRIEFLY think of the thing that used to make you afraid.

Don't spend much time dwelling on it.

Just let it pass quickly through your mind.

Then refocus yourself on the pleasurable indulgence again.

Repeat this a few times, and as you do, you will find that the thing that used to make you afraid isn't quite so scary anymore.

If you continue to switch your focus between a pleasurable experience and the thing that used to make you afraid, eventually, you'll get to a point where the old fear trigger has now become a pleasure trigger.

One of the reasons why many folks have trouble changing habits and reaching goals is because they use ineffective techniques for communicating what is desired to their subconscious mind.

Buckling down and trying to force yourself to develop new habits is the hardest, evidenced by the fact that the vast majority who try this fail within a couple of weeks.

In a way, it's like trying to ride a donkey who doesn't want to go down a pathway.

You almost have to get off and drag the donkey as it digs in and stubbornly refuses to budge.

If you're going to succeed, you have to get the donkey to WANT to go where you want to go, and this requires a different approach.

You could also think of it like trying to give medication to a beloved pet.

It may be good for them, but they often won't touch it unless you hide it in a treat.

Your subconscious is the same way.

You may have the best of intentions, as you try to get yourself to do something that will produce wonderful results and a much happier life, but your subconscious won't go for it unless you package the message in something it wants.

And this is why so many personal development techniques fail, because most of them are dry, dull, and boring, and therefore do not offer your subconscious what it really wants.

Remember, the subconscious is the source of your emotions.  

It literally NEEDS to be emotionally stimulated, preferably with positive emotions like joy, love, and pleasure.

To be effective, personal development must include some aspect of fun and enjoyment.

And the best personal development would be something that includes a type of indulgence, because this is what your subconscious REALLY wants.

Think about it.

In most cases, the "bad" habits you may want to change are things that are (or at least WERE) enjoyable in one way or another.

What if you derived the same level of enjoyment from good habits, like eating right, exercising, and investing in your future?

Or what if standing up for yourself gave you a particular thrill you crave?

You probably wouldn't have much trouble living an abundant life, would you?

Now, you've probably heard that scientific studies have shown that the subconscious cannot tell the difference between a real event and something that is VIVIDLY imagined.

Well, obviously it CAN tell the difference, but your subconscious does respond in nearly the same way.

What this means is that an imaginary indulgence is almost as effective as a real one as far as the subconscious is concerned.

You could sit and daydream about something you enjoy, and your subconscious will respond by opening up and becoming more agreeable to your conscious instructions.

And this forms the foundation for the most effective personal development possible.
